The work of measuring, forecasting and responding to the impacts of climate change is more critical than ever. Under increasingly hostile scrutiny, the future of public support for this work is in serious doubt. But too much is at stake in the US and around the world. It is time to reimagine a more connected and resilient climate action support ecosystem that can thrive in spite of external disruptions.
We are providing the resources to create new homes in stable institutions for personnel and projects jettisoned by the federal government. These placements prevent irreversible loss of critical talent and technical systems.
We are proactively connecting field-leading experts in science, policy, and frontline coordination to create new connective tissue across the climate ecosystem. Together, our coalition is finding new ways of working that will deepen the ecosystem’s collective durability in the face of volatility.
The world’s ability to understand, forecast, and respond to climate change rests on a foundation that was, until recently, taken for granted. This presumed foundation is now fracturing, including the human infrastructure behind the climate action ecosystem. This human infrastructure has enabled breakthroughs that no individual could produce alone – decades of progress that are now at risk.
Climate Reserve was created to solve this problem – to drive rescue at a time when it is sorely needed, but also to reinvent how the climate community approaches longstanding challenges for durable action. To reinforce the networks and institutional structures that sustain the broader ecosystem’s health, making climate knowledge actionable at scale. Not to reinvent the federal government wheel, but to create an overdue complement. To advance solutions that are built to last.
Doing this work well requires a uniquely collaborative approach. As a coalition-driven initiative, Climate Reserve has partnered with more than 40 experts and organizations to simultaneously create new homes in stable institutions for personnel and projects jettisoned by the federal government while proactively connecting field-leading experts to create new connective tissue across the climate action support ecosystem.
